Newsletter for Gallagher Pool Service April 2008

Gallagher Gab

While the March chemical sale has ended, this is still a great time to come in to our store and pick up anything you might need! We are not very crowded right now, so this would be a good time to look over your equipment and figure out if you need anything new. Make a list of anything you need and come to the store. There are plenty of staff members on hand who can help you find what you need. Make sure your skimmer baskets are not cracked, check to make sure your pool cleaner is intact, your brush and net are not broken and you have a working (not expired) test kit. You may also want to pick up some new gear for the year, like a floating thermometer, a new pool float or a cool pair of goggles. While we are not crowded this is also a great time to talk about upgrading to a salt water chlorinator, a smart pump, or a water saving filter. Come on down to the retail store and see what we have to offer.

The opening season has already begun for some customers! All of our crews are out every day opening pools, and we are already booked up until the middle of June! In regards to opening your swimming pool there are a few things you will want to consider. Get your motor out from winter storage and dust it off. You will want to make sure it still works. If it does not work, you can bring it in to the store to be worked on. Check your filter for cracks or holes, as well as any grids or fingers, if you have a DE filter. You will need Algaecide 60, Purple Stuff Stain and Scale and liquid chlorine to open the pool (if you use chlorine and not Baquacil), so you may want to pick those up to have them ready when you open. Whatever date you want your pool to be open by, you should start opening several weeks in advance. Make sure your water level is half way up the skimmer. If your pool has an algae growth in it, you may need to add more chemicals when you open to clear it up. If you have a DE filter, check and make sure there is enough DE to backwash a few times while cleaning up the debris from the winter.

Gallagher Pools and Spas is selling both aboveground and
inground Swimming pools. We are also building inground swimming pools this year. We have built a number of swimming pools already. You can find pictures of pools built by Gallagher Pools and Spas at www.gallagherpools.com If you know anyone who is interested in an inground, vinyl liner or fiberglass swimming pool, or an aboveground pool have them contact a Gallagher Pools and Spas employee. We will be glad to find a pool that is right for them.

Our aboveground pool kits are made by Swim ‘n Play and are available in a variety of sizes. Both Oval and Round pools will be offered in two models; the Paragon and the Yorkshire. These kits come ready to install and can also be purchased with packages that include filters, ladders and other things to help you enjoy your new Gallagher Pools and Spas aboveground pool.

So by now you have probably heard about salt water chlorinators, and if you do not have one already, you may be curious how they work. A simple description would be that they combine the salt and the water into units of pure chlorine. A scientist might say that the unit uses an electrical charge to combine the water (H20) and Salt (NAcL) to form pure chlorine (HOCL) with a byproduct of a caustic (NAH). What is important, however, is that you can sanitize your pool by installing a salt chlorinator and simply adding table salt to the water of your pool. This will eliminate your need for chlorine tablets and shock. Customers who use this system enjoy it because of its push button simplicity, and the reduction in their chemical demands. To answer your question ahead of time, the water does have a slight hint of salt taste and feel, but it is less salty than the ocean by far. Additionally, you will still have to keep the balance of pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid as normal. It is a simple and easy way to chlorinate your pool.

You can get a Salt System for an aboveground pool called the AquaTrol for $599.00, and a salt system for an in ground pool for $1169.98.

Gallagher Pools and Spas has received a marvelous selection of toys this year, from swimming sharks to floating fairies, underwater surfboards to floating bocce. We also have a brand new colorful assortment of water guns in all shapes and sizes. All you have to do is come into the store and pick out what you want.
