Gallagher Gab

As this hot dry
year comes to a close, many people have already begun to close their
swimming pools. Others are keeping them open even longer than normal
to enjoy the hot weather we are still having. While Labor Day signals
the close of the main pool season, this year is still giving us
plenty of nice swimming days. Remember to watch your water level
so that your skimmers do not run dry if we do not get more rain.
It also helps to keep your solar blanket on the pool to prevent
evaporation and also keep heat in on those cold nights. Watch your
chemical levels so that when you do decide to close the pool, it
is easy rather than a struggle. If you have already closed your
pool, remember to keep your cover pumped down to 1" when we
have big rains.

Speaking of covers, perhaps it is time
for a new one! Now is a good time to get that old cover out of the
garage, basement or shed and check to make sure the mice have not
been at it. Check for holes or tears, or anything else that renders
it unfit for use. If it has been damaged, contact a Gallagher Pools
and Spas associate to find out how we can replace it. If you have
an inground pool with a solid tarp-like cover, this might be a good
time to invest in a safety cover from Loop-Loc. Safety covers look
much nicer than ordinary covers, as well as the added security that
your pool will be a safe place in the winter when you are not watching
it. Solid safety covers come with an automatic cover pump to pump
the water down, while mesh covers allow water to pass through them
(but not people or animals). If you use waterbags, examine them
to make sure none of them are broken.
For you abovegrounds, check to be sure
you have the cable and winch to wind around the pool. If you are
in a windy area, consider products like cover clips or winter cover
seal, which help keep the wind out from under your pool.

While you are getting ready for winter,
what a great time to examine your equipment to make sure it is all
in working order. Have you been putting off getting a new motor
for the right time? Is your filter undersized for your pool? Is
your ladder starting (or continuing...) to rust? Is your skimmer
basket cracked, with the lid and weir missing? Does your pool heater
still work?

What an excellent time to pick those
things up for next year while we still have 2007 prices on everything!
As soon as we start ordering 2008 products, those prices may increase.
You can call our store to secure the items you need, come in to
shop for them in person, or order them from our fully functional
website www.gallagherpools.com Chlorine will keep over the winter
as well, so if you need to get tabs or shock you still can!
